Neelam Chanda

This is an application for the Mental Health Certificate Instructor Program at Vancouver Island University. My educational background includes a Bachelors in Nursing, Master’s in Psychiatric Nursing and a PhD in Nursing. Teaching experience spreads across teaching Diploma Nurses (3year program in Nursing) in India, and teaching undergraduate, and Masters Students in Nursing, in USA. Clinical Nursing entails a brief stint as a Psychiatric Nurse. My research interests focus on psychometrics, measuring stress in vulnerable populations, evaluating student learning with the application of research in the class room. Some of my research includes, developing a tool to measure assertiveness in nursing ward supervisors, using cookies to teach nursing research concepts to undergraduate nursing students, and recently, a tool to measure social, cognitive, and instructor presence (SCIP) in online courses as a collaborative project with a mentor from Quality Matters, with expertise in the area. I look forward to an opportunity to guide nursing students with their projects.
