Job description

Academic Leadership & Curriculum

  • Lead and coordinate the Early Years Programme (EYP) across Toddlers, Pre-Nursery, Nursery, PP1, and PP2.
  • Ensure effective implementation of the IB PYP Early Years framework and school’s early childhood curriculum.
  • Support teachers in planning and delivering play-based, inquiry-led, and child-centred learning experiences.
  • Guide teachers in developing age-appropriate learning engagements that promote curiosity, creativity, communication, and independent thinking.
  • Monitor curriculum implementation, learning outcomes, and student progress across EYP grades.
  • Support the development and review of Unit of Inquiry plans, learning engagements, assessments, and documentation.
  • Ensure continuity and progression of learning across different EYP age groups.
  • Promote a balanced approach to academic, social, emotional, physical, and creative development.

Teacher Leadership & Development

  • Lead and mentor the EYP teaching team and support staff.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, academic planning sessions, and curriculum discussions.
  • Provide guidance and constructive feedback to teachers on classroom practices, planning, assessment, and student engagement.
  • Monitor lesson planning, classroom implementation, learning environments, and documentation.
  • Identify professional development needs and support teachers in continuous professional growth.
  • Encourage reflective practice, collaboration, and sharing of effective teaching strategies within the EYP team.
  • Support the induction and mentoring of new EYP teachers.

Student Development & Wellbeing

  • Monitor the overall academic, social, emotional, and developmental progress of EYP students.
  • Ensure that classrooms provide a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and stimulating environment for young learners.
  • Identify students requiring additional academic, developmental, or behavioural support and coordinate appropriate interventions.
  • Work closely with counsellors, learning support teams, and other relevant departments when required.
  • Promote positive behaviour, independence, communication, confidence, and social skills among young learners.
  • Ensure appropriate safeguarding, health, safety, hygiene, and child-protection practices across the EYP.

Parent Engagement & Communication

  • Serve as a key point of contact for EYP parents and facilitate effective parent-school communication.
  • Address parent queries and concerns professionally and coordinate with teachers to ensure timely resolution.
  • Organise parent meetings, orientation programmes, workshops, and other EYP engagement initiatives.
  • Support teachers in maintaining effective and consistent communication with parents.
  • Provide parents with appropriate updates regarding student learning, development, and school initiatives.
  • Build strong partnerships with parents to support children’s overall development and learning.

EYP Operations & Administration

  • Coordinate the day-to-day academic and operational functioning of the EYP.
  • Ensure smooth coordination of timetables, activities, events, resources, and classroom requirements.
  • Monitor attendance, student records, academic documentation, and other EYP-related administrative requirements.
  • Ensure adequate availability and appropriate use of learning resources, classroom materials, and teaching aids.
  • Coordinate with administration, transport, security, housekeeping, medical, and other support teams wherever required.
  • Support the planning and execution of EYP events, celebrations, field trips, assemblies, exhibitions, and special programmes.
  • Ensure that EYP spaces and learning environments are maintained to appropriate safety and quality standards.

Assessment & Documentation

  • Oversee age-appropriate assessment practices across the EYP.
  • Ensure teachers maintain accurate student observations, learning records, portfolios, and assessment documentation.
  • Monitor student progress and support teachers in identifying individual learning needs.
  • Review student learning evidence and provide guidance for appropriate interventions and enrichment.
  • Support the preparation of progress reports and other academic documentation.
  • Maintain appropriate curriculum, assessment, and programme-related records.

IB & Professional Responsibilities

  • Support the effective implementation of IB PYP principles and approaches to teaching and learning in the Early Years.
  • Promote inquiry, agency, play, reflection, student voice, and transdisciplinary learning.
  • Collaborate with the PYP Coordinator and other academic leaders to ensure alignment and continuity across the programme.
  • Participate in IB meetings, workshops, professional development, school reviews, and academic initiatives.
  • Stay updated with developments in early childhood education and IB PYP practices.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, school improvement initiatives, and academic planning.
  • Participate actively in school events and contribute to the overall culture and vision of the school.

Requirements

Preferred Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Psychology, or a relevant discipline.
  • B.Ed./D.El.Ed./Early Childhood Education qualification preferred or required as per applicable norms.
  • Minimum 5–8+ years of relevant experience in Early Years/EYP education, with experience in a leadership or coordination role preferred.
  • Strong understanding of early childhood development, play-based learning, and inquiry-based education.
  • Strong knowledge of the IB PYP framework, particularly its application in the Early Years.
  • Prior experience in an IB/PYP school will be highly preferred.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and developing a team of EYP teachers.
  • Strong curriculum planning, academic coordination, and classroom observation skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers, students, parents, and school leadership.
  • Strong understanding of age-appropriate assessment and documentation practices.
  • Ability to handle parent concerns and sensitive student-related matters with professionalism and empathy.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and time-management skills.
  • Candidates with relevant IB PYP training, workshops, or leadership experience will be preferred.
